Sometimes using a distance map is a great way to generate a scatter map or mask for materials in your scene. However the distance map is computationally pretty expensive especially with lots of items or high resolution assets and often i find myself needing to move an asset assigned to the distance map without recalculating the map itself.
It would be extremely useful if we were able to both disable automatic updates of the distance map and render the generated map to an image file if we need to.
Both of these may already be possible within the map itself given that when using a distance map for a scatter, the distance map is shown as a preview in the scatter panel. But having it recompute may not always be necessary for small adjustments.
It would make scatters much easier and faster to work with if this were implemented and i would hope its not a huge undertaking for the development team to do so.
