I believe a dirt brush that works similarly to that of substance painter would make it really easy to apply effects like wear to metal, leakages, dust, etc. much more accurately and easily
Infact i completely forgot that viewport canvas exists. But essentially you could use the viewport canvas tools to paint a mask directly onto your model. However it can be extremely unstable and often causes crashes when ive used it in the past.
It would be unlikely to be a "dirt brush" as such, but more say painting a mask between layered materials (and it would be up to you to set suitable unworn / worn materials). Is that acceptable as a way of meeting this request? Not sure if this is already possible in 3ds Max. I'll leave the request open for the tech support and devs to comment for sure on that :)
